Table games at home vs actually sitting at a table

So this is probably a dumb comparison, but last Saturday my neighbor had a few people over and someone pulled up a digital blackjack table on the iPad in the kitchen, from the list on. We were already playing cards with a real deck, then half the group drifted over to the screen because the shuffle was instant. I stayed with the paper cards for a bit, then tried a couple of hands on the tablet just to see. It was faster, sure, but I missed the dumb comments and the person who always forgets to ante. Does online table stuff ever feel social, or is it mostly a solo thing once you’re not in the same room?

Digital cards always look cleaner than the decks at my uncle’s house, and I’m not sure that’s a plus. His cards are bent, somebody’s always short a chip, and the rules get renegotiated halfway through. I’ve sat in on a few online tables out of curiosity and the pace is nice if you already know what you’re doing. No waiting on the slow shuffler. I still end up watching the chat more than the cards, which is probably why I drift off. Real tables have more dead air. Sometimes that’s the part I actually liked.
