Rabbi Danny Freelander
Rabbi Daniel Freelander retired in 2019 as President of the World Union for Progressive Judaism and after serving for 40 years as a senior officer of the Union for Reform Judaism. His career there focused on the evolution of American synagogues and the central role of Jewish music in developing Jewish identity and spirituality.
Danny was the founder of the Commission on Synagogue Music and the annual North American Jewish Choral Festival, and guided the development of Shireinu and dozens of music publications. He currently serves as board chair of the Mary McDowell Friends School in Brooklyn and sings with the Zamir Chorale. Danny and Cantor Jeff Klepper are celebrating their 50th anniversary of songwriting and performing as Kol B’Seder.
